The Research Grants Council (RGC) created the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) in 2009 with the intention of luring the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD programs in Hong Kong's universities. This academic year, about 300 PhD Fellowships will be given out. The institutions of choice may offer additional help to recipients who require longer than three years to complete their PhD. Any field of study is eligible for financial aid.

Goals and Advantages of the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Program
The Fellowship offers a conference and an annual salary of HK$325,200 (about US$41,690).and HK$13,600 (about US$1,740) in conference and research-related travel expenses for each awardee for a period of up to three years. In the academic year 2023–2024, 300 PhD Fellowships will be given out*. The universities that received the awards may offer additional support to recipients who require longer than three years to earn their PhDs. Please speak with the relevant universities directly for more information.
Qualifications for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme
Irrespective of their country of origin, previous work experience, or ethnic background, candidates seeking admission as new full-time PhD students in the eight universities listed below should be entitled to apply.
